Although Herbie is famous around the world and throughout history, his parents are unaware of his powers. Herbie thinks that it is better that they not know, especially his Dad, Pincus Popnecker, who likes to think of Herbie as a little fat nothing.

It helps that his Dad does not see through Herbie's disguises.

When Herbie adopted his superhero persona, The Fat Fury, protecting a secret identity was not among his reasons. The last straw was a fear that his father would try to become a costume hero himself.
