Herbie's father calls him a "little fat nothing," but Herbie has other nicknames. Some names are used maliciously by his foes, some adoringly by the women who can't resist him, and others, commenting on his fat.

Since Forbidden Worlds #116, Herbie has been called the Fat Fury, continued on the masthead of all the Herbie comics ("Make way for the Fat Fury"). While Superman is the "Man of Steel" and Batman is the "Caped Crusader", Fat Fury's nickname is usually the "Plump Lump", but he can also be described as "this fearless lump of lard who strikes like a thunderpoop". Sorry, Super and Bat, such adulation is beyond your reach.

Index terms: Name-calling, slurs, suet, fatso, plump lump, fat, water rat, pretty mans, fearless lump of lard, strikes like a thunderpoop, lover, fatburger, adorable fat custard, hussy, Richard E. Hughes, Ogden Whitney
